This is the only icing I recall my grandmother making. I did change a few things slightly, but basically, this tastes the exact same way. There is just lots less sugar and no GMO ingredients:-)
3/4 C hot milk (cooled)
1/2 C butter at room temperature (one stick)
1/2 C palm shortening
1/4 C sugar
1 scoop pure stevia powder (or equivalent)
1 tsp vanilla
Cream together butter, shortening and sugar with an electric mixer until sugar is almost dissolved. Add vanilla. Add milk gradually until finished. Ice your cake only after cooled, or it will melt the icing!!! Store cake in the fridge.
